DAL MAKHANI


This is a healthy protein-rich dish.


INGREDIENTS:


1. Whole black beans (black urid dal) -- 1 cup.

2. Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp.

3. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp.

4. Red chilli powder – 2 tbsp.

5. Coriander pwder – ½ tbsp.

6. Dried fenugreek leaves (Kasoori methi) – 1 tbsp.

7. Whole garam masala

8. Coriander – 1 sprig chopped.

9. Butter – 3 tbsp.

10. Tomato puree – 1 cup.

11. Cream – ¼ cup.

12. Salt.


METHOD:


Soak the whole black urid dal in water for 1 hr and then pressure cook until it is well cooked. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and whole garam masala. Once it splutters, add ginger-garlic paste and saute it and then add the tomato puree and cook for 5 minutes in low flame. Then add 2 tbsp of chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and cook covered. Then, add butter and cook for 2 more minutes. Once it comes to a boil, add the cooked black urid dal, some water and mix well. Then, add dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi) powder and mix well, and boil it in low flame until it becomes thick, make sure you mix now and then to avoid dal sticking to the bottom of the pan. Once it is done, add ¼ cup of cream and mix and cook it in low flame for 5 minutes.

Serve hot with rotis/naan/paratha/rice.
